With big budgeted action movies coming out every weekend and the weekends in the summer being cluttered with one super hero after the other and action flicks coming in huge numbers; this film stands out.
When you see the film you cannot resist at any point for comparing it with the previous ventures of the the director and producer of the film. Where as you find the film with some memorabilia of Cloverfield with similar destruction and same element of surprise, this film has got Spielberg written all over itself because it brings back the memory of one of the cherished movies of my childhood and that is E.T.
Screenplay of this film is written very smartly because till the very last moments one does not know what is causing the whole crisis and yet everyone is gripped to the screen to see what happens next. Subtle humor and light hearted moments also help make this film worthwhile. When you are watching the film you cannot help but notice the fact that this film indeed comes from a person who has been long inspired by the Spielberg films, and as a lover of Mr. Steven's work I was not let down, instead it took me down the memory lane where the movies were more fun. Dialogues the children deliver fit their personalities pretty well, and the script has the right amount of suspense, action and drama into it.
Performances are surprisingly great, when you have children having the leads of the film you don't expect much originality from them and concentrate more on the action, but I cannot help but notice the fact that children indeed delivered and casting couch for this film indeed produced some real good actors.
Direction is the best element of the film, combining the drama from loss and the suspense from the unseen entity causing all this destruction seems like a formula for a film ten years ago, but you have to commend the director because he carries all the elements simultaneously and seems to look like an effortless performance.
Equipped with a nostalgic score from the early 90's pic this film is indeed a family affair and a movie that needs to be watched with family. This film will certainly not be promising you with hunky actors or actresses with glamour to flaunt instead this film offers heart and nice time which will be remembered.
